Install vs replace ceiling fans - what's involved
Installing and replacing ceiling fans are slightly different jobs, but our professional electricians at SA Metro Electrical are highly experienced in both.
Installing a ceiling fan for the first time is a new electrical installation. That usually means deciding on the best location for airflow, checking that the blades will clear the floor and nearby walls or fittings, confirming the ceiling structure can actually carry the moving load, and then wiring in the fan, controls and isolation correctly. When it comes to replacements, if there is already a compliant power point, proper structural support, adequate clearance and the right switching arrangement, then a replacement can be relatively straightforward. But a replacement is not always a like-for-like swap - older brackets, light points, dimmers, remote receivers and switching setups are not automatically compatible with modern fans.

A covered alfresco, verandah or patio can often use a fan that is specifically approved for covered outdoor applications, while a fan in a more exposed position may need a much higher protection level.
