The best in surge protection Adelaide wide — reduce risk from storms, outages & electrical surges
Power surges can be caused by storms, lightning, switching events and outages — and they can damage sensitive electronics over time or in a single event. Surge protection is about shielding a property from transient overvoltages — short, sharp voltage spikes that can damage electronics long before a breaker ever trips. SA Metro Electrical provides surge protection across Adelaide metro, including whole-home options (where suitable).
Our experienced and professional electricians will assess your switchboard and electrical setup, explain practical options that best suit your home or office, and then install surge protection where appropriate. Surge protection is a risk-reduction measure — it can't prevent all damage, but it can help reduce exposure and help your appliances and electrical systems work safer for longer.
SA Metro Electrical provides domestic and commercial electrical services right across the Adelaide metropolitan area. Located in Hendon and proudly serving suburbs including Adelaide CBD, West Lakes, North Adelaide, Henley Beach, Unley, Norwood, Prospect, Mawson Lakes, Burnside and Glenelg. When customers usually ask about surge protection
Typically, customers only worry about surge protection after there has been a surge event resulting in damage to their switchboards, circuits or appliances. But prevention is always better than a fix - and there are many different opportunities and times that customers come to us asking for help with surge protection at their home or property, including:
Before storm season (or after a surge event)
When upgrading a switchboard or adding new loads
When protecting or installing new home offices, TVs, routers, security systems and other sensitive equipment
For properties with frequent outages or storm exposure (site dependent)
Whole-home surge protection
Every property is unique, and in order to provide the most comprehensive surge protection for your home or property, our expert team of professional electricians Adelaide wide will book in a time with you to conduct a thorough assessment of your electrical systems, requirements and load, before providing you with situation-specific advice in language you can understand.
Whole-home options are commonly installed at the switchboard (where suitable).
We'll check compatibility and discuss options for your setup.
If your switchboard is outdated, an upgrade may be recommended before adding devices.
Quotes and pricing structure
The pricing on jobs we undertake here at SA Metro Electrical depends on the scope — number of fittings, access, whether new circuits are needed, and what is required to diagnose and repair faults being just a few of the factors we take into consideration. We're dedicated on providing value for money and a fair price for work done, as well as making sure our pricing is transparent for all our customers.
We do our best to book jobs in ahead of time, at a time that suits you. Whilst we provide emergency electrical work 24/7 for homes and properties, we also like to discuss larger jobs with you in detail, and work out a time where we can come and do a full site inspection, before giving you our honest advice on what your job requires, as well as a timeframe to completion and a honest, fair quote.
Free quotes are available for many domestic jobs.
Call-out fee and hourly rate may apply depending on the job and timing.
We will confirm the full scale, scope and approach of the job before work starts.
After a storm or outage — what to watch for
Although surges and damage can occur through every day events such as switching events or overloading your system, storms and unexpected outages are known for resulting in damage to electrical appliances and systems. If you've just experienced a storm, or your home or office experiencing an unexpected outage, then look for these issues. If you notice any of the below, or even if you want to speak to expert professional electricians who can diagnose and provide you with 24/7 support, then call SA Metro Electrical today.
Repeated tripping, partial outages, burning smells, heat marks, or buzzing from the switchboard can be urgent.
Don't keep resetting breakers/RCDs that won't stay on. There might be damage that isn't visible, and repeated resetting can make things worse.

What surge protection does - and doesn't - do
Surge protection is designed to limit short, sharp voltage spikes before they reach and damage sensitive equipment - this helps protect televisions, computers, appliances, smart-home gear, POS systems, security equipment and other electronics from the kind of brief electrical spikes caused by lightning-related activity, utility switching and internal switching events.
What surge protection does NOT do is protect against every electrical problem in the property, and it's not the same thing as overcurrent protection or earth-leakage protection. Circuit breakers are there for overload and short-circuit protection, while safety switches/RCDs are there to trip when current leaks to earth. Surge protection devices also do not provide backup power during a blackout, and should not be treated as a guarantee that no equipment will ever fail — it's all about reducing surge risk, not make a building electrically immune.
Surge protection can help reduce the impact of certain surges by diverting excess voltage.
It doesn't make a property "surge proof" and can't guarantee all equipment will be protected.
The right option depends on your switchboard, earthing, and overall electrical condition (assessment first).
