Is this an emergency?

Use this as a plain-English guide. If you are unsure, call and we will help you assess it. SA Metro Electrical are experts in all domestic and commercial electrical work across the Adelaide metropolitan area, whether it's indoors or outdoors.  Our experienced, professional electricians will give you up-front, straight-talking advice to keep you in the loop on the specifics of our work and the timeframe to completion, and will do everything possible to ensure you get both an excellent result, as well as superior customer service.

Call now (urgent)

  • Burning smell, smoke, or heat around switches, outlets, appliances, or the switchboard

  • Visible arcing or sparking, buzzing from the switchboard, or scorch marks

  • RCD or breaker that will not stay on after resetting once

  • Partial outage affecting safety-critical circuits, or storm and water damage concerns

Usually non-urgent (but worth booking soon)

  • A single outlet not working

  • Minor lighting issues (flickering, a fitting failure)

  • Planned upgrades (fans, lighting, switchboard assessment)

What to do right now

This is general guidance only - each emergency electrical situation is different, and not always will the hazards presented by the situation be obvious. If there is any immediate danger, you should always call emergency services (000) first.

Once you have done that, make sure everyone in your home or office is safely removed from the affected area. Call our expert team at SA Metro Electrical to guide you through the situation, and organise a time for us to come out and assist you.

If you can safely do so, switch off the affected circuit at the switchboard.

Do not keep repeatedly resetting a breaker or RCD that continues to trip.

Avoid using damaged outlets, wet areas, or appliances that smell hot or burnt.

Call a licensed electrician to make it safe and investigate the cause.

  • storm damage ceiling light broken
  • a broken electrical wall socket affected by storm damage
  • circuit box with damaged wiring
  • electrician testing recessed circuit box
  • burned out switchboard being replaced
  • emergency surge protection test

How after-hours pricing works

The pricing on jobs we undertake here at SA Metro Electrical depends on the scope — emergency work is often time-critical and can be complex. Rarely do systems fail on their own - electrical damage can affect multiple parts of a system (e.g. a light fixture and the wiring feeding into it from the roof, etc), and often the extent of damage isn't fully known until a thorough assessment has been completed. No matter the extent of your emergency electrical issue, we're dedicated to providing value for money and a fair price for work done, as well as making sure our pricing is transparent for all our customers.

A call-out fee and hourly rate may apply, especially after hours, weekends and public holidays. Pricing can vary based on the fault type, access, and what is required to make it safe and restore power but at SA Metro Electrical we are proud to offer superior customer service, and we will always confirm the approach and costs as clearly as possible before proceeding.

Free quotes are available for many domestic jobs.

Call-out fee and hourly rate may apply depending on the job and timing.

We will confirm the full scale, scope and approach of the job before work starts.
